Gripe is caused by muscle spasms and excess acid formed when air bubbles become trapped in a baby's stomach. These trapped air bubbles can make the stomach think it is full, leading to unnecessary acid production that causes irritation. Additionally, the stomach muscles struggle to relax, causing cramps and spasms.
